Mi Terro is a biotech company that focuses on creating sustainable materials from agricultural waste. Initially, Mi Terro was focused on turning milk waste into protein fibre to be used in the fashion, medical, and packaging industries.
Founder Luo started the company in 2018, inspired by visiting his uncle’s dairy farm in China. A lot of milk was going to waste, and he was curious whether it would be possible to make something of value instead of just dumping spoiled milk.
However, Mi Terro has since expanded to using other agricultural waste streams, such as potato peelings and brewer's spent grains, to create replacements for polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a petrochemical-derived film used in laundry and dishwasher pods.
