X (formally Twitter) was created by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams in March 2006 and was launched that July. By 2012, more than 100 million users tweeted 340 million tweets a day. In November 2013, the company went public through an IPO. Twitter had set a price of $26 per share for its initial public offering. The price valued Twitter at more than $18 billion based on its outstanding stock, options and restricted stock that would become available after the IPO. The company had originally set a price range of $17 to $20 per share for the IPO, but that was a lowball designed to temper expectations. Shares jumped 74% on the company's debut, closing the trading day at $45.10 and a $31.8B valuation. On April 25, 2022, Twitter agreed to a $44 billion buyout by Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, one of the biggest deals to turn a company private. The agreement closed on October 27 of the same year.
