Lola was founded in 2015 by former Kayak.com executives, Paul M. English and Bill O'Donnell and raised more than $80 million in funding during its operations. Simply put, Lola.com served as a travel agency for hotel and flight search information, as well as offering booking services for businesses. The company was born in stealth in a Boston-based incubator named Blade. Three years later, in 2018, Lola inked an exclusive partnership with American Express Global Business Travel. Using this pitch deck, Lola raised a $37 million Series C round (having raised $66M prior) led by General Catalyst and Accel. After an attempted pivot to fintech software in February 2021 (due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism), Lola ceased operations in September 2021 and was acquired by Capital One the following month.
