Revolut was founded in July 2015 by Nikolay Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko as a solution to traditionally expensive overseas spending by removing hidden charges and fees. The platform was initially created to enable travellers to spend in over 90 countries. Storonsky, who is the CEO of Revolut, initially invested £300,000 of his own savings in the project. Revolut used this pitch deck to raise their £1.5M seed round led by Balderton Capital in July 2015 shortly after becoming a Seedcamp-backed company back in February. Since then, Revolut has raised over $24B from nearly 130 investors. Back in 2015, they had just 4.8k subscribers. As of 2024, 40+ million customers globally use Revolut to send money to 140+ countries. According to Revolut's 2023 report, the company earns over $500M in net profits and holds over $22.7B in customer balances.
